Best Sports Betting Sites in Ethiopia

The online betting market in Ethiopia is currently suspended. Ethiopia has gambling laws and a regulator, but the licensed sports betting sector has been shut down after the Ethiopian Lottery Service revoked all sports betting licences.

The key regulator is the Ethiopian Lottery Service. In December 2025, it ordered a nationwide halt to sports betting activity and withdrew the operating licences of all licensed sports betting companies in Ethiopia. The measure took effect from 15 December 2025 and applied to online betting platforms, retail betting shops, agents, and related payment services. The regulator linked the decision to a nationwide investigation, alleged breaches of licence terms, illegal activity, money laundering concerns, and threats to national security.

Before the full shutdown, the regulator had already suspended 22 betting operators as part of a wider investigation. Reports linked that earlier action to suspected financial misconduct and concealed revenue. After that, the market moved from partial suspension to a full licence revocation for all sports betting operators.

This means there are currently no legal online betting sites to recommend for Ethiopia. Even if some betting websites remain reachable, players should not treat them as locally licensed or protected by Ethiopian regulation. In practice, any active betting offer should be viewed with caution until the regulator publishes a new licensing framework or confirms that operators can resume business.

For bettors, the main risk is protection. If a user deposits with an offshore or unlicensed operator, there may be no local regulator to handle complaints, payment disputes, voided bets, or frozen accounts. Payment access can also be unstable because enforcement has extended beyond operators to the wider betting ecosystem, including payment channels.

For this reason, I cannot review the best betting sites in Ethiopia. The safer and more honest position is to wait until the Ethiopian Lottery Service confirms a new regulated market, publishes authorised operators, or restores licences under updated rules. Until then, Ethiopian players should avoid betting sites that claim to be locally legal without clear, current proof from the regulator.
